The Final Fury

Featured

Greetings!!

Here we are, at the end of a quite frankly ridiculous and a pundit shaming of a season! It is one which has been unprecedented in so many ways and we are unlikely to see one like this for many years. Half way through this season, nobody would’ve bet their hard earned money on City to run away with the championship. After the start that they had, nobody would have suggested Ole’s United would finish second (albeit a distant one but with a game to spare), & West Ham inspired by United ol’ boys, Moyes & Messi Lingard to within a whisker of qualifying for Europe.

The season has been dominated by a lot of themes but some stayed constant like VAR, refereeing howlers, muscle injuries and Spurs bottling it time and again. We are set up for an exciting last day of the season, with two Champions League and the Europa League spots up for grabs.

All in all, this was a brilliant experience for Bawa. You read some, you absolutely ignored some & in the end, we know that there are a few hundred lovely people out there (thanks to the wordpress data capture analytics) who turn up every week, only to see us get our predictions absolutely wrong. Thank you for supporting & bearing with us and in the interest of maintaining discipline; we refuse to go away quietly as we intend to go out all gun’s blazing. It’s one last opportunity for us to get all our predictions hilariously wrong.

On that note, let us have a look at what Bawa has to say (with full confidence) on the final set of matches.

Here’s to plenty of goals & final day madness!!

Arsenal vs Brighton

AFTV can go into an absolute meltdown and they couldn’t be faulted for their manager publicly accepting that they have made a lot of mistakes this season and they need to learn. The criticism that Arteta got an easy job because he sat on Pep’s bench grows louder. On the other hand, Arteta has definitely made improvements and a little bit more patience could reap them rich rewards. Nothing much to say about their squad but them kids be alright!

In Dat Boy Welbz, Brighton will be missing a major attacking outlet. The former Arsenal man has been Potter’s respite in the weeks that have gone by. Lewis Dunk’s return from suspension should be a boost though. In what could be his last game for the Seagulls, Dunk’s presence in both the boxes could be crucial.

Bawa’s Verdict: Arsenal to take this by a few goals.

Aston Villa vs Chelsea

Villa have completely tapered from where they were at the start of the season. Consequently, they also pose a much milder threat to Chelsea’s Champions League ambitions (if the Blues don’t end up taking it at Porto). Grealish’s return in the last match would have been a relief to Smith, and the Englishman would want to put in one last performance in the shop window before someone swoops in for him for what would be the GDP of Liberia & Sierra Leone combined.

Chelsea post Tuchel have been what their fans would have wanted all season. Timo VARner had yet another goal written off due to VAR. But Rudiger and Jorginho ensured that Chelsea seriously reduced the threat levels of Leicester to their place in next season’s UCL. As long as Tuchel puts Mendy between the sticks, they should be alright!

Bawa’s Verdict: Chelsea to just edge this.

Fulham vs Newcastle

Fulham, who swiftly return to the Championship and have nothing to play for but pride will take on the Geordies at home. In a season of ‘what-if’, the Cottagers would seriously wonder how things could have turned out, if their attack had turned up in at least half of the games that they drew.

Newcastle have built up a brilliant momentum to please their potential Saudi suitors. Joe Willock would also want to top his form off with another brilliant showing before he returns to his place that is unfairly occupied by an expensive signing or two at the Emirates.

Bawa’s Verdict: Howay The Lads – Newcastle to sign off with a win.

Leeds vs West Brom

It’s their first Premier League home game in more than a decade in front of their fans. Bielsa’s boys would want to dance around the Baggies to give their fans something to cheer. Expect a few goals and a raucous crowd.

Big Sam will also leave his post at the Hawthorns after this game, making him the second PL fossil that will be without a job at the end of the season. It’s all about Pereira (if he starts as he is carrying a small injury) and how he can show other PL clubs what they would get by keeping him in the Prem. There is nothing much to write about the Baggies squad now.

Bawa’s Verdict: Leeds to run riot

Leicester vs Spurs (Match of the Week)

The Foxes completed a brilliant Cup run but seem to have lost steam in the Prem. The absence of Evans seems to be hurting them defensively. Iheanacho meanwhile continues to score for fun, and by the looks of the Spurs defence, should continue to as well. Brodgers would know that his side will have to give it all, to displace his former club from the top 4 or else face elimination from the CL AGAIN on the last day.

Ryan Mason’s Spurs have looked very likely to concede at home, and they are worse away. Add to it that this could be MC Kane’s last ever game for the Spuds, this could be a comedy of Spurs proportions. Mou Mama rolled all 3 of his usual seasons into one and has left Spurs desperately clutching for a Europa League place.

Bawa’s Verdict: A nervy draw where both sides lose.

Liverpool vs Crystal Palace

What was written off to be a horrible season in defence of their title has achieved a decent shape come last day. Mo Salah has proved his enduring class & value once again by pulling along the side when they were found lacking. TAA has come into some serious form as well and will be posing serious questions to Southgate and his Euros selection. Liverpool have not had the best finishes to the season in the years gone by but they will be aware that a few million pounds and the small case of participating in the Champions League next season are in the balance here.

Palace will want to give their manager the perfect send-off. Benteke’s form will be on Klopp’s radar provided the Belgian recovers from what seems to be an ankle injury. Half the world will be hoping that Uncle Woy has the last laugh against his former employers, as he signs off from the footballing world.

Bawa’s Verdict: Liverpool to take this one.

Man City vs Everton

Brighton pipping Pep’s boys to the post would count for nothing. Pep would still rest his key players, with focus on the upcoming Champions League final, especially knowing that his opponents (Chelsea) have a lot at stake against Villa. We would also hope Aguero beats the roulette and gets a start. A true legend of the Premier League and Man City.

Everton have only themselves to blame for the position that they are in. They will go back to the drawing board with nothing to show for some exciting exploits in the early half of the season. Hameez’s fitness will continue to be a concern, and Don Carlo will be hoping that they can work on it during this off-season.

Bawa’s Verdict: City parade to go on.

Sheffield United vs Burnley

The Blades’ fans must be thanking their stars or Gods that this season is finally over. Onwards and hopefully upwards from the Championship.

Sean Dyche must be uneasy looking at his side now. In the absence of Pope, the defence is a wobbly mess and looks certain to concede. But Chris Wood and his motley crew of midfielders can’t seem to stop scoring! If you are looking for some upside in your FPL team, Wood could be your go-to man!

Bawa’s Verdict: Burnley to take home points.

West Ham vs Southampton

Moyes will be proud of the fight that his squad has shown. They have been unlucky with injuries. What could have been, if Antonio and Cresswell hadn’t spent time on the physio’s table is anyone’s guess! West Ham would still look to wrap up that Europa League spot, and maybe sign Lionel Jesse permanently in the summer!

Ralph has had a horrible season with luck, injuries and VAR. Their resurgence after being destroyed by Leicester last season was used as a marker by many, after Bruno and Co. demolished them. However, that was not to be, and the Saints would be glad that they were not in any relegation scrap in a season like this.

Bawa’s Verdict: Hammers to win and secure their Europa League spot.

Wolves vs Man Utd

It’s Uncle Nuno’s farewell game. It’s only a shame that Jimenez won’t be around to bang in a few against a United side that will see some rotation (hopefully!). With the departure of Nuno, the Wolves roster could also see other significant departures, this could be a farewell match for many in Wolves’ colours & of Portuguese nationality.

With a Europa League Final on Wednesday night & with second place wrapped up, Bawa requests that somebody/anybody please tell Ole’ that he can rest Bruno. With Daddy and Diallo upfront, United should have enough fire power to handle the Wolves and end the season in a manic flourish given that United will definitely concede as well.

Bawa’s Verdict: Another Draw for Wolves?

FPL Corner

Goalkeepers: Allisson/Martinez/Leno

Defenders: TAA/Cresswell/Dallas

Midfielders: Raphinha/Aubameyang/Salah

Forwards: Antonio/Wood/Bamford

Leagues of Yonder:

Luis Suarez aka El Pistolero did the business for Atlético Madrid and helped them lift the #LaLigaSantander for the 11th time in their history. The champions beat Real Valladolid in a 2-1 comeback win thanks to a Suarez winner to clinch the title from their city rivals ending a 7 year dominance by Real and Barcelona.

Speaking of Madrid, their star striker, Karim ‘Ferrari’ Benzema has been rewarded for a fine season with his inclusion in the France team for the European Championships. His inclusion has led to a 2400% increase in shirt sales of the French national team. Ferrari Benzema 1 Go Karting Giroud 0!

When it comes to money, the Championship play-off final, what many consider to be the most valuable game in football will take place at Wembley on May 29th between Swansea and Brentford.

Robert Lewandowski is now the sole record holder for most goals in a Bundesliga season. Despite Augsburg’s best efforts, Lewa scored his 41st of the season with the last kick of the game to earn him this accolade. The same match will also be remembered as the last for legends like David Alaba, Jerome Boateng, Javi Martinez and the manager Hansi Flick in a Bayern shirt.

While this pandemic hasn’t spared anyone, this time its victim were the Argentinian giants, River Plate. With only 11 fit players and a midfielder playing in goal, River Plate did the unthinkable and beat Santa Fe 2-1 in the Copa Libertadores. #vamos

First; Bawa wishes you all a Raapchik & Raawas New Year! This new year doesn’t really need to do much to be better than 2020, so 2021 you better not f*#k this up!

In true 2020 fashion, the last GW of the year poured cold water on all expectations. 2 postponed games, 2 goalless draws and Bielsa running the Baggies into the ground. Here’s hoping that there are no more postponements in 2021 and a lot more of Bielsa and his murderball please. However, in what is typical of this season, the postponed fixtures helped Bawa touch the 50% mark for the first time this season, in his predictions. So cheers to that, and onto the first set of fixtures in 2021:

Everton vs West Ham

Everton’s legal team would probably be more primed to strike than their actual strike force – on current form. The postponement of their game against City just 5 hours before kickoff came as a surprise to all, as Everton were apparently not consulted on the matter. However, the return of Richarlison should bode well for the Toffees this year. Their defence; inspite of the absence of Digne & Coleman, seems to be able to hold itself, but will it manage to do the same against West Ham’s mean machine is what we will have to wait and watch.

When a manager is relieved that ONE striker is back from injury and believes that it will help them score goals – it is definitely not good news. Despite wonder goals and a bully of a midfield, the Hammers have found it hard to put goals into their opposition’s nets. The return of Antonio should change that!

Bawa’s Verdict: Everton to clinch this one.

Man Utd vs Aston Villa

3 points off the top, with a game in hand at the turn of the year, and a possibility of going level on points with Liverpool at the top of the table; United fans would have most certainly taken this especially after their wretched start to the season. However, the level of reliance on Bruno is alarming and having barely managed to win when Bruno is off the pace, this does not reflect well on the rest of the squad and this needs to change with games coming thick and fast.

Dean Smith has had a dream run in the first half of this season, and after barely staying up, Villa fans would have accepted mid-table mediocrity, forget being in the running for the European spots at this stage of the season. However, the rise of El-Ghazi has seen the attacking threat of Grealish fall sharply. Martinez and Co. will definitely have a tough 90 minutes in seeing off wave after wave of United’s attack.

Bawa’s Verdict: United for the win.

Spurs vs Leeds

Mou Mama was unhappy that even with less than 6 hours to go for their game, he was not being told if their game against Fulham was on or off. Spurs in essence have had an extended rest before coming up against a bundle of energy that is Leeds. Will Mou Mama park the bus, or look to activate the counter through Son and our beloved MC Kane.

As Bawa rightly predicted, Leeds ran the Baggies into the ground slamming 5 past Big Sam. Leeds will now have to break through the ‘two banks of four’ that Mou Mama will be placing in front of them a.k.a the bus. In Lloris, they will also be up against one of the PL’s more accomplished and experienced keepers. We will have to wait and see, if they can buzz their way past Mou Mama’s Night’s Watch.

Bawa’s Verdict: Spurs to take this one.

Crystal Palace vs Sheffield United

Palace seem to be in all sorts of trouble most of the time, yet manage to pull out a point here or three there and continue their journey towards safety. Uncle Woy would have been delighted with the point against the Foxes, and even the Palace attack should definitely find a way against relegation bound Sheffield.

You can only feel bad for Chris Wilder. Sheffield’s attack has turned out to be bewilderingly impotent that is not even able to score anymore! Ramsdale who was one of the better keeper’s in the league last season, is just not able to keep a shut out this season. Wilder’s men desperately need some magic potion. And they needed it yesterday. The Championship beckons for the Blades, unless they can go on a massive winning run.

Bawa’s Verdict: Hard to see beyond Palace!

Brighton vs Wolves

Brighton cannot blame their bad luck any longer. Someone needs to tie up their laces and start scoring those goals. Potter has tried all sorts of combinations, and nothing seems to be giving way. And as is the case always, and across clubs, just when he smelt form – Dat Boy Welbz pulled up injured. The Seagulls need goals, and what better time than the turn of the year to set them goals, and achieve it too!

After losing track, Patricio seems to have taken control and tightened the Wolves’ defence to make it difficult for opponents to score. However, that isn’t the case with their strikeforce. The absence of Jimenez is most telling when everyone calls Harry Maguire’s performance against Wolves, a masterclass. There might be an unknown Portuguese striker or two, that might land up in England this January 😉.

Bawa’s Verdict: Wolves to take this one.

West Brom vs Arsenal

Big Sam started off on a stunning note by unravelling Klopp at Anfield and leaving with a point. And then all hell broke loose, with Leeds smashing 5 past his team. The Baggies however would hope that the tie against Arsenal is a breather, keeping in mind the poor attacking form of the Gunners.

A visit to the Hawthorns can’t come at a better time for the Arsenal. They have finally pieced together 2 wins in a row, and will want to continue the streak against a hapless West Brom side. Lego Hair would want to see his side get out of the bottom half of the table at the earliest, and this could be the first step of many in that direction.

Bawa’s Verdict: 3 points to the Gooners. AFTV to have a happy start to 2021.

Burnley vs Fulham

The Clarets’ win against Sheffield sees them climb over Brighton to 16th. Dyche would want to put as much distance possible between the relegation zone and his boys, as possible, in this stretch. The injury to Charlie Taylor could have an impact on the attacking end for Burnley though – it will have to be seen if they can find a like for like from their endless stream of defenders.

Fulham had built up a solid defensive form with consecutive draws before Covid hit them hard. It was unfortunate that the game against Spurs had to be postponed, because that game could have determined how this season would progress for both the sides, and a potential upswing for the Cottagers.

Bawa’s Verdict: A home win to impress the new owners.

Newcastle vs Leicester

Bawa has time and again pointed out the unpredictability of Newcastle. Led by Darlow, the Magpies stunned the English football fraternity and held Liverpool to a goalless draw. However, it would be completely in character, if they deliver a catastrophic performance that would see Vardy and Co. run amok at St James.

Rodgers would be loathing himself for resting key players and dropping points against Palace, which sees United gain a step on them with a game in hand. Having Vardy back can only be a good thing for the Foxes as Ilheanacho is simply not good enough. The new year should also see their first choice wing-backs returning in the form of Pereira, Castagne et al, which would provide Schmeichel with a stronger defence to marshal.

Kasper is all set to eclipse his father’s record for maximum appearances by a Danish goalkeeper for a club in the Premier League. The duo are tied at 398 now. Image Credits: http://www.besoccer.com

Chelsea vs Man City (Match of the Day, if it happens)

The jury is still not out on Frank Lampard, inspite of an uninspiring start to the season which sees them at 6th on the table. Werner, Havertz and to an extent Ziyech have failed to deliver the adrenaline rush and zip that they were supposed to provide. Instead, Lampard has had to resort to good ol’ Olivier Giroud to deliver the goods.

While it still stuns everyone as to how Man City couldn’t put out a playing squad including U23s against Everton, one can only send good wishes and hope that all infected at the City training ground are on the road to recovery. Pep’s troubles over a misfiring attack would now be replaced by putting out a strong XI to face Chelsea who would themselves be looking to start afresh.

Bawa’s Verdict: An entertaining draw.

Southampton vs Liverpool

Southampton didn’t quite Wreck-It-Like-Ralph with Ings back in the lineup. While everyone expected them to win, the Saints played out a goalless draw. While being able to keep a clean sheet inspite of the absence of Vestergaard is heartening, Ralph would want his attack to get back in form at the earliest, especially against Liverpool who haven’t scored in 2 games.

When was the last time in the Premier League that Liverpool went without scoring 2 games in a row! Big Sam stunned Klopp with the formation he unveiled, and then Darlow led Newcastle shocked both Brucey and Klopp. Southampton wouldn’t be a defensive affair and there could be goals. The Reds would be well aware that if they don’t take three here, they’ll be playing for the top spot against United at Anfield.

Bawa Says: Liverpool to edge this.

The FPL Corner:

Goalkeepers: Pope/Guaita/Leno

Defenders: Chilwell/Robertson/Dallas

Midfielders: Maddison/Zaha/Aubameyang

Forwards: Vardy/Kane

From the Leagues of Yonder…

In an astonishing record, Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid continued their streak of not having conceded a goal against Getafe for the last 9 years. A Suarez header was enough to give the Rojiblancos the 3 points.

January 1 also means that the transfer window is now open. Below are some players that will soon be out of contract and could prove to be a bargain.

The turn of the calendar also means that the winter transfer window opens. It’s that time of the year when @FabrizioRomano’s words turn gospel for football fans across the world. Apart from confirming the New Year, Fab more importantly confirmed the loan arrivals of Radja Nainggolan to Cagliari and Sead Kolasinac to Schalke.

Staying with transfers on Fabrizio Romano, a love story came to an end at Atletico as well.

What an entertaining match week!! (44 goals in total, a record in a 20 team PL gameweek)

Fun fact: we’ve still not witnessed a single draw in the first 2 weeks of the season. Not sure when that happened last and since we are happy about this, we leave it up to you (our readers) to help us with this information. Kindly do enlighten us with this information in the comments section. Chumma!

Bawa is more than a little disappointed with the result against Crystal Palace to the extent that he was wondering if life is worth living anymore. Victor Sellhimoff!!

With the mid-week Carabao Cup matches, managers and players are already voicing their concerns over the fixture pile up so early into the season and this might impact their selection in the upcoming PL match week so expect rotation especially if you are one of the seven million playing FPL. Fixture congestion? COVID says hold my beer…

Brighton – Manchester United

A few expected United to lose against Woy’s Crystal Palace but that’s exactly why we love the PL, anything can happen! The lack of a proper pre-season might have been the case but United players seemed sluggish and off the pace. Ed Woodward seems to be well on his way to knocking United off its fucking perch!

Brighton on the other side played well against Chelsea and lost and were mightily impressive at Tyneside. Tariq Lamptey, the little pocket rocket; take a bow. So effective that some say that Maximin feigned an injury to try his luck some other time. With a solid backline, Potter has assembled a squad that can compete with the big boys by playing an exciting brand of Quidditch and cause a few upsets in the PL along the way.

A fixture so important, that we get it twice in two weeks now!

Bawa’s Verdict: Expect United to sneak a win in an exciting match!

Crystal Palace – Everton

The two unlikely teams so far with a perfect record face off at Selhurst Park. With another cracking performance, Zaha is channeling his idol (Ronnie) to secure transfer in this window (hopefully not to a guarded facility in Sudamericana).

With new signings settling in like fish to water, the Everton team looks as solid as ever. Carlo will want to use the West Brom performance to kick on and maintain their fine form. If you haven’t got your Everton FPL cover yet, you have a long season ahead.

Bawa’s Verdict: A comfortable win for Everton.

West Brom – Chelsea

As mentioned in our first post, West Brom lack the quality to trouble Premier League teams and this one should be a walk in the park for Chelsea unless Kepa plays or another player decides to mix things up and resort to Kabaddi.

Werner would thrive in a counter attacking set up, however, Brighton and Liverpool denied him the chance, thanks to Kepa! Now that Havertz has come into his own with a hat-trick against the mighty Barnsley, will anyone be able to stop the Chelsea juggernaut.

Bawa’s Verdict: Expect Werner to score his first PL goal in a big Chelsea win.

Burnley – Southampton

Burnley unsurprisingly lost to Leicester and it is baffling that Sean Dyche has only recently made his first signing, the uninspiring Dale Stephens while releasing Jeff Hendrick, Aaron Lennon and Joe Hart in addition to a long injury list.

Danny Ings got off the mark in fine style but playing a high line with a dodgy defense and keeper cost the Saints dearly against Spurs. Saints seem hell bent on playing this system, so expect Wood and Co. to take advantage.

Bawa’s Verdict: Expect a first draw of the season.

Sheffield – Leeds

Bielsa and his Leeds United team are the most exciting team to watch as a neutral. With two successive PL games with a 4-3 score line, what a return it has been. They have signed Diego Llorente from Sociedad but will he be the answer to their leaky defense? For the sake of our entertainment, we hope not!

Sheffield on the other hand have been a little underwhelming so far and it doesn’t help matters when one of top players gets sent off while another misses from the penalty spot. Wilder’s team could head into tough run of fixtures in October with zero points if they don’t get a favourable result in this fixture.

Bawa’s Verdict: Leeds to win another entertaining match!

Spurs – Newcastle

This fixture might come too early for Gareth Bale’s reintroduction to the Premier League but it would be fair to say that Spurs have had a stellar transfer window so far. With Kane playing provider with four assists and Son reminding everyone of his quality, undermine this Spurs attack at your own risk.

In true Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde fashion, no one can predict which Newcastle team will show up on Sunday. The Toon were poor against Brighton and will need to be on their “A” game if they want to get something out of this game.

Bawa’s Verdict: Kane and Son to take Newcastle to the cleaners.

Man City – Leicester

Wolves were a potential banana skin for City but Pep’s team came through with a positive result from the Molineux (also the case with Gundogan but with respect to Covid). If there is any criticism about City, it’s with their defense and Ake on his debut partnering Stones did not do much to instill much confidence.

The same can be said of Leicester, as without Evans and now Ndidi, they are defensively suspect. Harvey Barnes and Castagne impressed again going forward and this sets us up for an entertaining match of possession vs. counter attacking football. The last time Leicester were top of the table, they had pipped Spurs to the title, 5000-1 anyone?

Bawa’s Verdict: City to canter to a victory!

West Ham – Wolves

West Ham were unlucky to come away empty handed from the Emirates. On paper they have some very good players but time and again they forget to bring their talents to the field. Moyes seems to be finally getting some positive results, although in the COVID testing facilities, unfortunately!.

Wolves tormented the City defense in the second half and gave them a proper game. Nuno will ensure that against West Ham they maintain the intensity for the entire 90+ minutes. Jimenez has started where he left off last season and in Podence they have a ready-made replacement for the Liverpool bound Jota.

Bawa’s Verdict: A straightforward win for Wolves.

Fulham – Aston Villa

Martinez had a memorable debut and saved a penalty to keep a clean sheet and get the Villans off to a winning start (First of many Bawa told you so moments!).

Fulham were good going forward but their defense is too porous at the moment. Scott Parker needs to sign a commanding center back in the remaining two weeks else they will return to the Championship in a jiffy.

Bawa’s Verdict: Watkins to score his first in a boring 1-0 to the Villans!

Liverpool – Arsenal

There is a sense of optimism amongst Arsenal fans coming on the back of two positive results against Klopp’s men but isn’t that the case every season, come on, be honest, you Gooners! Auba could pull a stunner and punish everyone who sold him – which is basically everybody on FPL.

Liverpool controlled the game against a 10 man Chelsea and were only further helped by Kepa’s generosity. With both Salah and Mane up and running for the season, expect the usual suspects to haunt the Arsenal defense.

Bawa’s Verdict: Liverpool to win this comfortably

The FPL Corner: Ones to watch

Goalkeeper: Ryan/Leno

Defender: Reece James

Midfielders: Son/Sterling

Strikers: Werner/Kane

From the Leagues of Yonder…..

UEFA Super Cup was held at the Puskas Arena with 15,000 fans in attendance despite the growing fear of a second wave of Covid-19 in Hungary’s capital. On the field, Bayern Munich completed the quadruple, beating Sevilla 2 – 1 in extra time thanks to a rare Javi Martinez goal in the 104th minute.

In typical Zlatan fashion, Ibra scored a brace against Bologna on opening day to yet again prove that he doesn’t age (Zlatan things).

Luis Suarez will probably go down in history as the most controversial player to ever play the beautiful game. Considered surplus to Koeman’s revolution at the Nou Camp, a move to Juventus was widely reported but in an interesting turn of events, officials in Italy have alleged that Suarez cheated on his language test to obtain Italian citizenship to complete his move. While his move to Juventus has failed and he has instead signed for Atletico Madrid, a full investigation and severe repercussions can be expected.

On another note, the Rojiblancos frontline suddenly seem brand ambassadors for shithousery with the union of Suarez and Costa under the able guidance of Simeone.

COVID seems to be affecting football closer to home as well, with players from three ISL teams testing positive – casting a question mark over what has been silent and steady preparations for a closed-door season of top division football in India.

To end on a happy note though, Bundesliga returned to action and is one of the first leagues to allow 10 – 25% of home fans back into the stadium in regions where the infection rates are low. Thankfully everything went without a hitch as the fans showed tremendous discipline and a probable way for other leagues to follow.
